Anyone who listens to Radio 1’s Live Lounge will hopefully have heard Ellie Goulding’s cover of The Knife’s “Heartbeats” earlier this week. A fan of Goulding, I was bitterly disappointed by her cover of Elton John’s “Your Song” last year, which, although reaching no.2 in the UK singles chart, I felt was a bit too unabmitious, and, well, boring, really. Give me Ewan McGregor’s Moulin Rouge version any day!
But I fell in love with her velvety acoustic “Heartbeats” cover instantly, which is more in tune with the José Gonzalez cover from 2006 (sadly often assumed to be the original), than The Knife’s electronic original.
